Now and then, I want a smoothie. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, this Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie is my go-to because I love all chocolate and peanut butter pairings, and because this has bananas in it, it’s very filling. There was a time when I was making daily trips to Tropical Smoothie for my smoothie fix, but nowadays, I just blend one up at home whenever the craving hits.
The ingredients in this smoothie are pretty straightforward.
Cocoa powder: I suggest an unsweetened cocoa powder so the smoothie isn’t too sweet.
Frozen bananas: I like to freeze mine for quick smoothie making, and once they are frozen, they will add a nice consistent creaminess.
Oat milk: this is my personal favorite, but any other dairy or non-dairy milk such as almond or cashew will work.
Peanut butter: I use creamy peanut butter. You can also use powdered peanut butter using the same measurements. Feel free to use less peanut butter as some have expressed that the peanut butter was overpowering for their taste.
Vanilla extract: optional but great or a balanced flavor.
It’s a smoothie, so feel free to add any other additions, replacements, or protein powders that you would normally enjoy in your smoothie. Other ingredients to consider for various health benefits are avocado, cauliflower, oats, chia seeds, almond butter, and spinach.

How to make this Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie
Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth. Garnish with chopped chocolate if desired, and that’s it! You can enjoy this smoothie for breakfast, lunch, or, if you’re like me, an evening dessert.

1 cup oat milk
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter (adjust as desired)
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract

Notes
Use any milk you prefer
I suggest ripe bananas because they will offer sweetness to the smoothie
Peanut butter powder can be used instead of creamy peanut butter
If you don’t like bananas, you can use frozen cauliflower.

I’ve made this no less than 10 times since it was posted and it’s unbelievable how simple and delicious it is. Any way to incorporate Greek yogurt into it?
Hi Lisa! It’s such a delicious smoothie so I’m glad you like it. I think greek yogurt would be excellent in this. It would probably make it nice and creamy.
The best smoothie I’ve ever tried!
Awesome!!!
Yum so good! Makes a good amount – I split it with someone. Thanks!
Very very good but I divided it i to 4 small glass ramekins and it was still 264 calories each! I’ll definitely play with the ingredients to lessen the calories.
My boyfriend and I have been experimenting with smoothies as a way for me to get more vegetables (I’m very picky). Found this, left out the bananas and used yogurt instead of the milk. Added some flax seeds, ginger, kale, and spinach and chocolate protein powder.
I couldn’t taste the spinach or kale at all!! It was really good. Thanks!
I’ve made this several times and I love it! Just wanted to let you know that this is still satisfying and blessing lives!
Thanks for sharing it.

Hi Shanequa, I’m so glad you love it! It’s one of my favorites, too. It’s not too sweet, but it always satisfies my chocolate-peanut butter cravings. Thanks so much for your support. – Jay
